That Drug

Barred up, caged in
white hollow rooms
a small window to peer out
beyond this sawdust backdrop

but I need what courses through my veins
what drives, what revives
and what calms the wicked beast
don't keep me from what I need

not a ray of sun in sight
in this chartered institution
just when I break away to find the serum
I realize winter's here to stay

give in to it, my dear
hide the magic in your palm
to use in the corner where no one sees
fall victim to the sweetness and never go back

don't let them catch you
because it's not in the standards
god forbid this craft, so indulged in
not fit into the mold

dancing's banned
screaming to find the animal inside
is forbidden, oh how
I just wanna go back to my roots

I'm in love with this
beautiful, narcissistic stuff
the riffs, the beats, the blood
you can't keep me from rock 'n roll
