As I Lie Upon a Bed
By: Elsren (aka GodsChild86)

As I lie upon a bed
With tubes snaking ‘round me
There’s beeping and guttering and muttering
Hushed voices as my eyelids flutter down

I see a road that only goes one way.
My footsteps show me
My life... My suffering
My pain... My desire
My joy... My need

And I know this is mine.

This was mine.

I am glad.
Glad and proud
For every mistake and every reward
Every friend and every enemy
Every lesson learned and every fault forgotten.

I lived that life.

I’m glad I did.

This I realize
As I take a step
On a journey that has already begun.
This I wouldn’t have known
If not for my arrival at the road.
This road. My road.
The end of the road.

I laugh
And take a step
Into the light.
