Someone left me outside once
Set me on a paper cruise and I went down
Floated on the rivers in the gutter and fell asleep
Missing all the sights and scenes and sounds that I went by
I woke up in the sea
My ship disintegrating around me
Looked around, saw the birds
Calling out my drowning
Betting on how long I’d last in the water
I leaned back as the waves lapped up and wrapped around me
Warmer arms than I’d felt in my lifetime
Leaned back and fell into dreams
AgainAnd again
And again
Someone left me outside once
