Nostalgia
(mornings of)
sleeping in.
(rays that glisten through the windows)
wake us up, when the sun greets the sky.
(we're used to this.)
staying at each other's houses
(living in each other's lives)
taking pictures here and there.
(as memories escapes us)
life moves fast
(time moves faster.)
and all we have are our dreams.
(somehow we'll find hope.)
we talk about far away places, but remember
(to love home just the same.)
palm trees and paradise
(an escape that teases)
might be somewhere we least expect.
(could it be close?)
we head out to find it
(empty questions no one answers)
where can it be?
(a map and compass won't help us now.)
but a single light shining, on
(photographs)
those precious paintings of the past
(a serenade of recollection)
begging us to leave our adventure
(as nostalgia dances in our eyes)
singing memories, like
(strings of violins and promises)
the sunshine that's fading
(calling us, like sirens)
into the sunset
(telling us to trust)
as the stars come out to play.
(and the universe reveals)
making us realize, the world we wished for
(a lusting invocation)
is the very one we have.
