Beautiful

---

She was beautiful, she was pure

The most gorgeous of them all

She was peaceful and demure

But she always stood up tall.

Boys in the hall would look at her

Behind their hands they’d talk

They’d make catcalls and purr

But she’d only smile and walk.

Her heart was in the right place

As well as her dreams in mind

You could tell by the grin on her face

She wouldn’t be left behind.

And life went on this way

The beautiful girl had her dreams

Never on this Earth could she ever sway

But, of course, not all is as it seems.

For this beautiful girl met a beautiful boy

One who rose above the rest

One that seemed above playing with toys

Surely he was the best.

He told her so many things

Of the notions that held is heart

Of a lonesome past and broken wings

That simply tore her apart.

She fell for this boy, hard and fast

Without knowing what lay below

Without a parachute she fell, she crashed

No time to take things slow.

The beautiful girl gave the boy her all

Every bit of her heart and mind

But without second thought, he watched her fall

Acting as if he were blind.

Now it didn’t take much for the girl to see

The ways she’d been tangled and caught

‘This isn’t how things are supposed to be’

Seemed to be her only recurring thought.

Now the boy saw his girl crashing down

And made his hasty retreat

He moved on as she lay on the ground

In misery and in defeat.

For she’d let her dreams all slip and fade

All for some stupid boy

She never thought she’d ever be played

That she’d become one of his toys.

But she learned you can’t take it back

The things that are over and done

And it’s so hard to get back on track

When you lose your ‘only one.’

Because she lost her luster, her glow

As the one she loved decided to leave

The instant he turned around to go

She simply sank to grieve.

Now she’s alone on this day

And she cries, her heart feeling so full,

‘Oh how did it become this way

I used to be beautiful.’
