Cigarette Kisses
Cloudy minds, blazing night
Inferno of giggles burning bright
Comfortable confusion corrupting sensibilities
Don’t worry, be happy.
It wasn’t infidelity.
I think of all our chances; our hits and misses
And I always remember your cigarette kisses
It’s only wrong if you can’t remember
But you’ll always have those left over embers
Apologies and forgiveness come and go
Ubiquitous and seasonal, like rainfall or snow
Don’t waste your breath on unnecessary wishes
It was all worth it for those cigarette kisses
Bitter tobacco breath with sweet soft lips
I can’t regret or regard it a slip
Nothing’s ever perfect with black and white galore
But there’s not a day that goes by I wouldn’t go back for
more
No need to live with facades or pretense
Only the ignorant build a blinding fence
It can’t be a sin if it was enjoyable
Don’t pretend the event was uncontrollable
As our lives move forward, directions askew
I’ll always be the person you knew
As guys with no respect continue to “plow bitches”
I’ll forever hold fondly your cigarette kisses
