What They Fought For
He’d always had a
knack for games,
Knew all the
“shooters,” all their names.
But now that it was all
too real,
He had no clue what he
should feel.
He’d never held a gun
before
Or thought of fighting
in a war—
His place was in his
grandpa’s fields,
Not using shot-up cars
for shields.
All the glory “they”
said was here
Did not live in the
heat of fear.
‘Cause in amongst the
blood and gore,
Soldiers forgot what
they fought for.
