A Pen

To the untrained eye,

I might just seem like a plastic cylinder,

Filled with cheap black ink,

Or maybe a utensil used to help someone remember their needs.

But I, in fact, am so much more.

You see, I am a key.

I am the opening to a world,

That’s never been seen.

I’m a way to capture fantasies on paper,

A way to make ones thoughts,

Last forever.

I am a ship,

That can take you wherever you want to go.

I’m a set of wings,

To lift you off the floor.

I am a magic wand,

Helping to create dreams through words.

I’m the answer to every child’s question,

“What if? We want to know more.”

Yes, yes.

I might appear to be cheap,

A piece of junk lacking novelty.

But let me remind you,

Before I slip away,

That I’m the only way to express,

What you truly want to say.
