Tasted of the illicit fruit

Bittersweet, longing still

Overreached, I followed suit

Stared hungrily, eyes to fill

Dreamt of running fingers

Down your pretty face

Didn’t know the harbingers

Of a heart displaced

Beautiful you, oh such a mirage

I’d run for you but you’d never last

List the cons, such a barrage

Of things I can’t stand in your past

Breaking out, I’ll cut the cords

That tie your heart to mine

If I knew they were empty words

I wouldn’t have been so blind

Beautiful you, sweet words in mind

You’re another of those fleeting dreams

I’ll look until I find the kind

Who’s more than he really seems
