Wishes

I wish I was a bird so that I could fly,
and nobody could catch me way up in the sky.

I wish I was a wolf, howling at the moon.
No longer would I be confined in a suffocating room.

I wish I was a tiger; that is what I crave.
If only to be fierce, strong, and brave.

I wish I was a snake, slithering on the ground.
I could sneak up on my prey without making a sound.

I wish I was a wild horse, running alone and free.
Then a countless number of people would be in love with me.

I contemplate these wishes that other people had,
And mostly they just make me sad.

If they were animals they wouldn't have poetry.
You see, my wish is to only be me.
