A River of Tears

By Darcy Nussey

Chapter 12- Heaven by the sea

The next few months were quite chaotic. We needed to shop for everything that was necessary for the wedding, spend time together, plan for the wedding and then spend some more time together. It was almost enough to drive me insane.

We decided that we were going to be married on a beach, and we knew the perfect place. Half an hour away from us was a beautiful beach with soft white sand that seemed perfect as it lay undisturbed next to the icy blue sea. The sea whose waves came back and forth bringing with it gentle white foam to the edge of the sand, its blue mass glistening softly as it moved under the rays of the warm summer’s sun. I had brought a stunning wedding dress for my special day, it was white silk and flowed elegantly about my body; it was fitted close to my body and had no straps to hold it up. The strip of material at the top had patterning on it but the rest of the dress was plain white silk, it had a thin zip up the back but most of it was covered by the material, it was like my dream dress, I wasn’t going to wear a veil but I was going to have my hair pinned up with white flowers in it.

Finally it was time to get ready! I rushed up the stairs with Sam and Bridget close behind me. Bridget was going to do my hair, whilst Sam was going to do my makeup. Bridget’s hands worked like lightning, she pinned up my hair and curled the ends, then attached clips to white flowers and clipped them in my hair, she also used a couple of baby blue flowers. She wouldn’t let me see my reflection until she had finished as usual and nor would Sam. Sam started on my make-up whilst Bridget was still doing my hair, she used a slightly sparkly pale blue eye shadow with a darker blue around the edges, and then she used a black eyeliner and mascara. She covered all the mirrors up and helped me into my dress and white shoes, then un-covered the mirror, I stared at my reflection, and I looked so different…so pretty. If it weren’t for the fact that I would have smudged my make-up then I would have cried.

A door slammed downstairs and Raith’s voice rang through the house.

“Crystal! Honey where are you?”

“Get rid of him!” I exclaimed, Sam and Bridget hurried down the stairs whilst I stayed in my room. I paced the large room time and time again until eventually Sam came upstairs and led me to a black car, I sat in silence; enjoying the harmony around me, no matter what, this was my big day, nothing could ruin it. I watched the scenery change from the country hills to a glittering sea in the distance. My heart thumped in my chest, this was it in a short amount of time I would be married, and not only to the man I loved…the man I used to hate, but as they always say ‘there is a thin line between love and hate’ and for once I believe it.

At last we pulled up on the edge of the beach, there was a light teasing breeze, playing across our faces. I was lead to a turning and around the corner I could hear chattering voices, footsteps on the crunching sand, and last but not least laughter. Whispers started and I new that Raith must be waiting at the alter for me. Sam my bridesmaid and Bridget my maid of honour were going to accompany me down the isle, my flower girl was Bridget’s little sister, True, she was only 5 and had long blonde hair and steel hypnotic eyes, she was going to be throwing white and red rose petals. ‘Dun Dun Dun Dun’ the music started and I notice True was already walking down the isle throwing flower petals angelically, I swallowed my nerves and turned the corner, Raith stared and I smiled happiness flooding my body.

Sam on my left and Bridget on my right I began to walk at a slow traditional pace. The breeze caught my hair blowing it off my neck radiantly. I reached Raith and turned to face him, the vicar began to talk and I obediently repeated him when I was told.

“Wow I can’t believe I am getting married to Raith,” I thought to myself over and over again.

“Erm…Crystal,” Raith spoke softly snapping me out of my daydream, “You didn’t answer the question,” I blushed and realised I had missed the whole ‘I do’ thing.

“Im sorry Raith, I do!” I said happily as Raith slid the cool golden band on my finger as I did the same to him.

“You may now kiss the bride!” the vicar exclaimed with a small smile as he closed his copy of the wedding vows. Raith slowly pulled me close, a happy smile on his face and a tear in his eye and kissed me softly and gently; as he did so, a few people stood up and cheered admiring the fact that even after everything that happened we were making it happen. Then two white doves where set free, a male and a female, they soared into the beautiful clear blue sky and above the serene blue sea and then flew around Raith and I a few times before perching on the white alter, which had red roses entwined ,in front of us. I sighed; finally I was at peace and I was truly happy.

“Well until we had kids but I couldn’t scare Raith too much all in one day…right?” I thought a smirk on my face.

Well until I have something interesting to tell you about, good-bye!

The End…
