December’s Last Day

Like a familiar line from a favourite song,

Your words play out in my head

And the setting is stuck on repeat.

All day I drift away into the void of replay.

The night that we spent in continuous loops,

I fall to sleep in your arms again and again.

Each time we woke up, we wished the night would never end.

Your eyes caught mine

And the sky was painted to life in streaks of colour.

In a haze of orange-red and gold; I told.

Reaction took me by the hand.

When your lips met mine

We breathed our lives through each other

And our insides too, were painted in various colours.

The time slowed

Tangled in the sheet that covers

Smothers us in the warmth we share.

My body pressed tightly onto yours,

And fingers running through my hair.

Sneaking kisses with enveloped eyes.

We’re still smiling as we drift into sleep.
