Two stars to the right

and straight on till morning—

this is where dreams begin.

---

a thousand green-eyed dragons depart every night

to scour the misty oceans

for a taste of Neverland.

---

at the stroke of midnight

a thousand scratchy voices rise in harmony

and lead the way towards eternity

singing as they seek the spaces between the stars.

---

hear the song and catch a ride

no adults or dogs, please

(they break the dog rule often)

a blind old dragon leads the caravan

of fire and emerald scales.

---

a sailors’ lighthouse on shining rocks

winged fish leap over the rainbow

and are stained purple, green, blue

dropping as sleek jewels on the rocky beach, free for the taking

or for children to marvel in delight.

---

the wild warblings of swans rise over the lighthouse

loons scan the waters and sky—

the dragons appear with the dawn, to soar over the lagoon.

The mermaids chase the birds, laughing,

And sing as they comb their hair.

---

fairies light up the forest

with their bells and laughter

hiding in the pelts of wonderful beasts

as they lumber, confused, through the glade

inhabited by cats that talk

and bears that sing

and lions as old as time,

---

and the Lost Boys.

the children the land was made for—

they live forever

in thickets of butterflies

and dreams.

---
