CITY OF DREAMS

Shades of black, shades of white
Came to me in a dream one night
A city rose in the depths of my sleep
A child, a person on every street
Buildings as tall as the moon is wide
Trains that travelled up high in the sky
No sound, just as there was no colour
To brighten the city or anything other
Almost a vision from a silent film of old
Tattered, torn, and somehow, so cold
Bridges up in the clouds high above
Helicopters and planes flew about like doves

And the grandest of buildings
Stood above them all
Looming over the city
Sneering down at others all
They all bowed down
Before their Queen
They knew who was boss
Or so it would seem

My heart was a glutter
And I stared at this city
So giant! So amazing!
It caused a stir in me
Oh, that city, grand as can be!
How I relished,
How I savoured the sweet sight of thee!

Woken I was, back in the land of colour
I found myself missing the city like no other
Realise I did, I have been there before
Years ago, I could only have been four
Memories I lack of the previous dream
But a flash I do see, of a building
Grand as would seem
Despite the black, the white and lack of colour
Ecstatic was I to visit the city like no other
