Fearell’s POV

“Like, Oh my gosh! Do you, like, know how we’re, like, getting to Crayfer, like, college?!”

“Like, Oh my gosh! Like, I, like, totally can’t, like, believe it!”

I let out a groan and slid a hand down my face, clearly annoyed and infuriated with the girl that would not cease her bitching about and just shut up. Trying my best to keep my composure; resisting the temptation to yank those curly brown hair and smashing her face to knock off her pearly whites, I bit on my knuckles, calling forth a pain to distract my mind from murdering little miss chatterbox, in other words; Christina.

Having problems controlling your temper, now?

In shock, I bit down much more than necessary and was able to taste the slippery, metallic taste of blood; oozing down my fingers, causing me to hiss. Looking up, I found Kurt looking up at Professor Bloomaise, pretending to listen to her while his smile twitched in a smile at her. I narrowed my eyes and averted my gaze back up to Professor Bloomaise, now explaining once more on how we were to be examined.

The early morning was quite dim after the sun slid out of view behind the morning clouds; a soft blue puff with a slight blush of pink. The air was light with the heavy mist of dew hanging heavily around our ankles, moistening the green grass. The rhythmic sound of a million garden scissors cutting the grass; magically programmed to cut the grass every morning, sent a pleasant grassy smell to waft up to the air, melding with the floral fragrance exuding from the flowers and other various plants that dotted Xenocyd.

Professor Bloomaise cleared her throat suddenly, and started to talk about the “things” that will be following each and every one of us is actually a living thing. Kurt, next to my, let out a soft groan, knowing that Sky would probably try to eat his exam monitor if it were an animal. Laughing lightly, I smelled a faint smell of manure in the air and wrinkled my nose. Repulsed at the awful smell, I turned my gaze to my right, beyond Kurt; where the smell came from.

Professor Traff, with great difficulty; was hauling a large brown sack, quite tethered. Some seems to be alive inside it for it moved relentlessly. After reaching where we were, he took a deep breath and mouthed something to Professor Bloomaise; apparently he was too tired to say a word.

“Any difficulty, Professor?” Krayd appeared next to him, giving him a mock smile, his voice slightly condescending. Professor Traff panted; his hands resting on his knees and looked up at Krayd. Strands of Blonde hair were plastered to his face by sweat and he had abandoned his cloak and tie a good long way away. Wiping sweat and picking his sweat-matted hair out of his face, he shook his head at Krayd and hauled the sack back on his shoulders, walking with shaking knees the last few yards.

“One by one, you will step up and receive your examiners. They will choose you; NOT the other way around. They are powerful creatures, so do not provoke them into any arguments whatsoever. Now, Mr. Tormashburg, kindly come forward.” Professor Bloomaise called him warmly. She had always treated him kindly for he was one of her prize students.

Stevern shuffled forwards; his milk bottle glasses glinting in the sun; his black, mousy hair still plastered to his forehead. He poised his nose in the air and strutted towards the sack that now stood between Professor Bloomaise and Professor Nauron; his stance a confident one. Professor Nauron rolled his eyes and waited ‘till Stevern stood perfectly still in front of the sack, his feet parted and his knees slightly wobbly.

Suddenly; something shot out of the bag in a silver blur and furrowed itself into Stevern's shirt. Giving an astonished yell, Stevern stumbled backwards and started to roll around laughing on the ground. A minute later, a light blue beetle crawled out of Stevern’s collar; very large in size with large, green and glowing eyes. My eyes widened in confusion This is what the examiners like?!

Biting my lip, I anxiously waited for my turn, hoping that it wouldn’t be a bug. It wasn’t that I was grossed out by it or anything; I was worried that Sky would eat it or I would accidentally kill by mistake; thinking that it’s another ordinary bug. Plus, having a bug following you around isn’t exactly a very comfortable situation.

“Ms. Firrei, if you please?”

I watched Trinx step uncertainly forward, her hair now with purple streaks instead of pink tips. I noticed that she eyed the bug that Stevern was crooning over and her eye twitched, I knew she was fighting back a gag. Reaching the bag, she peered at the bag uncertainly and waited. A white blur suddenly jumped out of the sack and landed on her feet; a small white bunny sat there, looking up at her with adorable and unreadable eyes.

Immediately drowned by it’s cuteness, she picked it up and cradled it in her arms, attacking it with croons for a baby. Suddenly; it gave a deafening roar and jumped out of her arms, landing on the ground a few feet away, its sharp teeth bared, its fur on end, a threatening snarl was given her way. Taken aback, Trinx blinked and took a step back, looking very disheveled, screaming in shock when it had jumped up and bitten her on the ankle. I found it quite amusing and grew much more anxious to the next creature.

“Mr. Winders?”

Jaymes cockily strutted forwards and stood in front of the sack, sure of getting something cool to fit his personality. I bit my lip harder to stop myself from laughing when a small mouse with wings flew out and snuggled up to his face. Jaymes tried to push it off, but it held on; snuggling its grey fur onto his fair cheeks now flushed with embarrassment.

“Fizzy Nex?”

Fizzy stepped forwards, his eyes darting to Toto who was comfortably resting on the top of his head. A small bird with bright blue and yellow feathers poked his head out of the sack and flapped it’s wings in front of Fizzy’s face; causing him to inch his head away. It rested itself next to Toto, who tried to chase it away. The birds decided to fight in swirls around Fizzy, making it hard for him to walk for he might step on them.

“Fearell Nex?”

I boldly stepped forwards; my mind filled with anxiety and distress of what is to come. What if nothing comes at all? My mind questioned, yet I appear calm, with no sign of concern of the matter. My lips are dry and I swiped my tongue over them, I try not to hyperventilate; every movement so seemingly in slow motion; I recorded with my eyes; which darted to and fro in a sort of distraught situation.

I finally stepped directly in front of the sack; the pitch-black darkness of the hole mystifies me, as if hypnotizing. My feet scraped the dry ground, I could feel the crunch beneath my feet and the swirl of dust that spiraled around my ankle and calves, I fought back the urge to sneeze and waited patiently, my eyes straining to see what was inside. Time seems to have stopped.

A bright flash blinded my eyes and I had blinked in reflex. Big mistake… I cursed in my mind and was thumped to the ground by a blue and white blur. I made a grab at it but it crawled around at such a speed it was nothing more than a blur. It let out a bark later and I stopped.

What the-

I stood still and the creature’s running stopped; it stood on its four legs, its paws white and it’s blue tipped tail wagging. My lips trembled in restrain of a smile and I ended up with a thin line with my eyes twitching, I was sure I would burst out in laughter any second but I didn’t, merely squatted down and reached out for it very slowly, my hand shaking; then I felt the shock of pain on my reached out knuckles; numbing my mind.

The “thing” had bitten me and all I could do was stare at it in astonishment. It certainly was unpredictable; I was shocked by my own underestimation. I continued to stare at it, slightly winching when it bit deeper and deeper, the blood rhythmically dropping on the ground with loud “plop.” s.

Are you…okay?

I gave a glance at Kurt; whose face was facing into the horizon, the blue haze now settling in the sky, replacing the red and orange hue. I smiled and nodded before reaching out with my left hand to aid the retraction of my hand and picked the creature up; my right arm clenched tightly over its mouth. It constantly wriggled under my hand but soon was appeased.

Krayd received a green mole, Christina the Venus Flytrap, Rhyanna a grey owl with glasses, Lea a bear cub, Taver a dog sized cockroach, Kurt a snake and Nora a jelly like flying creature with large round eyes.

We all stood there, for what seemed like an eternity, playing, toying with our so called “examiners”, all except Rhyanna, whom looked away as her owl proceeded to give her a long boring lecture on tying shoelaces in such a low and boring voice with an occasional hoot to draw Rhyanna’s attention.

“God! Make it SHUT UP!” She exasperatedly clung on to my arm, her nails digging in my skin. I laughed as her owl started on another lecture of rudeness of calling other people “It”.

We sat on the plane seats, all were empty except for the seats that we occupy, there were even no stewardess…not even a captain, the plain was on auto pilot and we warned Jaymes if he dared step another foot in the cabin we would be forced to bind him onto a chair.

“I’m bored…How many more hours?” Trinx whined, her dark eyes half closed as she chewed on a cashew nut, her left hand working like a lever. I held out all my fingers on my right hand to shush her, my feet propped up on the top of the black leather seat in front of me, dirtying it with gravy like mud that caked the soles of my shoes.

Trinx let out a dramatic sigh and stood up, ignoring the seat belt light that flashed brightly above our heads, the sight beyond the window was pitch black, a cold and menacing darkness but I find it nothing special. I stood up to walk over to where Rhyanna and Lea sat on the carpeted floor, playing cards. As I stood I felt the uncomfortable, cramped feeling on my lower abdomen and stopped, my eyes wide.

“Oh shit...” I breathed out slowly and started to back away from where Lea sat, staring at me curiously reaching into my messenger bag for the suspiciously tissue-wrapped object that I hid in the hidden compartment. She arched a brow and I just gave her a grim smile, taking each step back slowly, not wanting to spread my legs to far out. Just as I was about to push the door of the bathroom, a hand flattened itself on the handle, pulling it back to a close and I twitched in annoyance. “Let go or I’ll kill you…” I muttered, my left hand gripping the tissue wrapped object harder, my blue veins popping out.

“Tell me what’s wrong first” Came a sing song voice, which I recognized to be Jaymes. I could tell he was sneering; enjoying the torture, which he could clearly see, etched across my face.

“Jaymes…I swear I’ll f-“ I started to mutter only loudly enough for him to hear but suddenly he was pushed back with such a force that he toppled over on the ground with something blue biting his nose and something white gnawing on his ankle. Laughter could be heard from behind me on my right side and I turned my head to see Trinx clutching her stomach, her face red from laughing. She had apparently sic our examiners at him.

Again…I’m warning all the guys…even the girls…to skip a few paragraphs ahead, really…theses next four paragraphs are gross and may make you barf (I know this will tap into your curiosity more but for you own good, don’t read). But if you really want to, go ahead…don’t complain, cause I’ve warned you…

Smiling, I entered the bathroom and locked it behind me, the lights automatically turning on when the lock was in place. Breathing out a breath of relief of able to draw away from them all, I undid my belt and pants, sliding them down before sliding down my underwear, feeling the sticky, peeling feeling and grimaced, looking down to see the color of dark brown that seemed to look like melted dark chocolate dotted with blobs of red, filling a patch on my underwear. The smell was repulsive, I swallowed back a gag tasting bile on my tongue. Grimacing, I slid it off and unwrapped the tissue-mummified object to produce sanitary napkins and clean underwear.

Stretching the sanitary napkin on the underwear and folding the necessary folds behind the underwear, I slipped it back on, tugging at it. God it feels like wearing a diaper… I cursed as I slipped back on my pants, buckling the belt a little tighter for comfort.

Turning to the abandoned underwear that was flopped on the sink, I picked it up from the band, holding it with my index finger and thumb; I washed it with steaming hot water, the smell now clinging onto the fog, half choking me; the smell sharp in my nose. Letting out a cough from the back of my throat, I dropped it in the sink and conjured up visible black hands from the shadows on either sides of the wall, moving my hands behind it in a motion that will be copied to the black, floating hands, doing my dirty chore for me.

Able to wash off the dry and dead blood, I squeezed it dry and wrapped it in a cocoon of tissues that quickly absorbed the hot water that wetted the underwear. I did this twice, satisfied that it was dry enough to be able to be wrapped only with 3 layers of tissue without dripping with liquid, I waved my hand and the floating, black hands shattered into little fragments, disappearing to the floor, melting away, leaving the grey, now soap smelling object lying innocently on the bathroom counter. Scowling at it, I picked it up and unlocked the bathroom door, allowing the darkness to bathe me.

I walked out of the bathroom and froze when I saw Kurt standing in front of me. He didn’t… I thought frantically, hoping my thoughts had been blocked successfully. His mouth was turned in a rainbow arch and I know he wasn’t happy at how the corners of his lips twitched in an obvious attempt of a smile. I wondered if he wasn’t happy with the fact that he couldn’t get inside my mind or because he saw it.

“How’d you…” He started but then turned away, slowly stepping towards a seat, his hands grazing the walls and tops of other chairs for direction.

Walking briskly towards my seat, I hid the new tissue wrapped object in the hidden compartment, letting out a breath of relief as I zipped it shut and closed the flap of my bag, looking about to see Rhyanna shaking her head and smiling in amusement, Lea gave me a sympathetic smile which I returned, my lips a thin line of a wry smile.

“That time?” Rhyanna asked from across my room and I laughed at how boldly she asked. With a nod, I replied, only to be replied back with a yell that made me bite my lower lip to keep backa roar of laughter “Me too!” She screamed.

“Oh…you too?” Trinx looked at me with a smile as she returned holding a plate of what appears to be spaghetti, her examiner, Blanc, meaning snow in French, balanced on her right shoulder, nestled quite comfortable, in his mouth a carrot as large as he was. Lupus, my examiner, bounded up to my head and rested comfortably on top, letting out a wide yawn and nestled itself among my hair. Thought annoyed by the heavy weight on top of my head, I let it stay there and twitched up my eyebrows for an answer. She sighed and replied, “I always eat a lot during these times..”

“But you never worry about weight…” I pointed out and rested my boots back up on the chair in front of me, scraping the dry mud on it, letting it crumble away.

“Good point!” She grinned and ate viciously, like an animal haven’t been fed in weeks. Avoiding the sprays of sauce, I looked up to see that Stevern was walking towards the airlock door. Curious, I stood and tapped Trinx’s head, pointing at Stevern. Many seems to have noticed this and our eyes followed him, widening when we saw that he was turning the airlock door handle to open.

His eyes was in terror, his brow moped with cold sweat. With trembling hands, he pushed the handle upwards and a large hissing sound filled the area, we all got up abruptly and yelled for him to close it. His hands was trembling, this I could see from where I was, he looked at all of us, as if pleading for help.

He’s being controlled.

Came the voice floating in my head, and I could see Kurt desperately holding on to Sky who was flapping about, trying to fly against the wind that now blew furiously in our faces. Christina, out of nowhere, clawed her way towards Stevern and grabbed him, as if to help. The rest of us tried to reach there quickly, but a certain force was pushing us away. Dressed skimpily, I noticed that there was a scar that ran down Christina’s chest, but didn’t pursue the matter, what mattered now was closing the airlock door.

With the wind howling in our ears, our eyes widened in horror when we saw the Stevern pried himself off Christina’s grasp and nudged the door open. The door was torn away from it’s hinges and a beeping sound came out from nowhere, supposedly a signal to close the door back. Without any notice, Stevern jumped off, dragging a screaming Christina with him, Taver, out of nowhere, took a parachute and dove after them. We all screamed, we all screamed for Jaymes to control the wind, but just as he was about to raise his arms, a force threw him across the plane and locked him in the bathroom, I looked at Kurt in panic but he was too busy holding on to one of the seats, the door was sucking everything out.

My feet were being dragged along to the opening and I tightened my grip on an armrest, but that was slowly braking, I felt something grip my shirt and propel me to the opposite wall. It hurt, but it was well away from the door, lessening my risk of falling out. I looked around to see Fizzy, looking about for something to block out the door. Lea shouted something at him but her voice was stolen away by the wind.

“-ell…” I could partially hear the screams of someone near by me and I turned to see Trinx, her hair jostled about by the roaring wind. She reached out to me and I took her hand, she had an idea and so did I. Grabbing the pot of the venus fly trap, I yanked the plant out and Threw it at Krayd whom extracted the dirt out quickly, assembling a messy sheet and laid it over the hole. As soon as it was closed, we all dropped to the floor, disconcerted. Krayd’s veins started to pop out of his arms; this would only buy us a few minutes.

Trinx interlaced her hands in mine and I held on to Rhyanna whom then linked arms with Fizzy whom placed his free hand on Trinx’s shoulder. Jaymes, Breaking free from the bathroom, staggered out and interlaced his hand with Lea who dragged Kurt and Nora towards the rest. Jaymes held out his hand a thick wall of swirling wind started to viciously lash about around a row of seats before then building a dome around them. Trinx placed her hands on the surface of the dome, the wind scorching her palm, drawing out a trail of blood that continuously splattered at our cheeks and clothes. Before long, the seats started to melt, melt into this puddle of nothing which then was forced on to the layer of soil that Krayd was holding up.

Dropping into a heap, Trinx let the melted concoction of metal and dirt dry, her shoulders trembling as she held back screams of agony as her other hand now gripped her right tightly, the blood seeping out. We all stood around her, breathing out gasps from weariness, only supporting our erect and standing legs while the rest or our bodies limped. Lea grabbed me and gave me a pleading look. I nodded before stumbling to reach Trinx, sweat trickling down my temple as I concentrated once more, my eyes closed, trying to reach for her source of pain. I jerked back violently, half refusing anymore pain to burden onto my body but kept my shaking hands on her shoulder.

A warm sensation flooded my body and my eyes flashed open, I looked up to see that Kurt had placed his hand on top of my head, taking half the pain into himself. I smiled appreciatively and watched Lea soothingly rubbed Trinx’s back. Trinx let out a few tears leak out as she watched her skin weave back together slowly, the pain now eased.

I watched and I watched, burdening half the pain and feeling it settle on my back, the only place in which I stored pain in. I felt something jab at my back and Kurt recoiled, now only his fingertips grazing my head, but determinedly he kept in touch, knowing that it was only a temporary pain, knowing that the seal will hold the curse back from taking forth. I wished now more than ever that each and every one of us was only another average student.
