the Point Of View was mine
and his
all at once::
the Two Of Us (me and him—it’s never
just
me
anymore—always me and him or him and me.
never just me anymore) sit and look at the stars-
-wait a minute…the yellow streetlights
destroying the fog, i mean.
ohsoromantic
this night has been perfect in my eyes
and his, too, he claims.
he drags me under
and as my lifelines play childish games in the background,
his mouth crashes down on mine.
ursula is dragging me under—
she wants us to become Us.
(where is king triton?)
the chorus chants their opening lines,
and modern verona comes to life in.your.eyes.
i can’t believe i never saw it-
-Us-
-before. i never saw Us changing
(god, i’m stupid…the
hugs
hand-holding
eyes
side conversations
should have tipped me off)
and before i knew it, valentine’s day
came around and i couldn’t possibly ruin that for
you.
(who am i lying to, exactly? me or him?)
when he’s here i think it’s him, but
sometimes, in the middle of the night when i
need
warm arms around me, i realize it’s me.
i’m fooling me.
the Point Of View is mine
and his
all at once::
l.o.v.e conquers all,
and absurdity promises to cushion my fall.
(that’s why they call them crushes.)
