Clutch that teddy bear tight little girl
Only six years old
But you carry the weight of the world on your shoulders
Maturity comes too fast
Every time you watch your dad leave at 3 am with some electronic from the living room you stay up all night watching the drive way
All those times you snatched those damn pills out of his hand
All the screaming echoing in your ears
Mommy screaming
Daddy crying
Ironic isn't it?
Why can't things be normal for you little girl?
Why do you have to stand outside your school hoping, not knowing, your dad would pick you up?
Why'd you have to grow up so fast little girl?
All those times you waved goodbye as daddy left for rehab
The days of kickball and snow cones float away like dust in the wind
Now you're 16
Don't have to worry about daddy leaving at 3 am anymore
He's nothing but that dust in the wind now
Why'd you grow up so fast pretty girl?
Only...
You're not a little girl anymore....
