February Dying in the Rising Waves

-

Confronting the infancy

of a thought, the birth

of a phrase, blue swirling,

like a wave considering

the shore.

-

1st Street Bridge, and

the crowd intensifies.

-

All the fishermen cast

their lines off the rock

formations between Virginia

Beach and Sandbridge.

-

And it is spring.

The surfers know, and

test these afterdawn

swells.

-

I watch the young couples,

descend from their hotel

rooms, from far off places,

Quebec and Montpelier.

-

I have a notebook, a pen,

and a warming breeze.

-

These days, thoughts abound.

Break out of hibernation

into activity. And I, harnessing

their potential into mere words.
