One Night

A sleepless night,

For a fatherless child,

Though she does not know it.

A sobbing night,

For a widowed wife,

Weeping for her lost love.

A sorrowful night,

For a wounded town,

Not knowing when the next meal might be.

A victorious night,

For the heartless invaders

Drinking to victory over helpless peasants.

A vengeful night,

For the brother of a dead man,

Seeking to avenge the fallen.

A silent night,

For those that accompany the avenger,

Wishing to aid him.

A hopeless night,

For the drunk invaders,

Because the avenger is near.

The last night,

For the sentry on guard,

Falling to the blade of the avenger.
