Yes... it IS the sequel to 'Fallen Rose' so I kept my word.
(If you're a new reader I don't think you need to read the first one. I'm adding in a few details that happened in the first story so it shouldn't be too confusing if you don't want to go read the first one.)
Chapter One
.:Summoned:.
Rose absently twirled the diamond engagement ring around the ‘spoken for’ finger of her left hand as she stared off into space. She no longer paid any attention to the in-depth conversation the two Guardians, Mac and Vince, seemed to be having.
She was once a Guardian. A loyal subject for the Trinum. She still had her powers, but she no longer answered to them. The only way she could be stripped of that power now was to willingly give it up…and revert to being a Human. Revert back to the short life she would have had, not the two thousand one hundred and twelve years she gained by becoming a Guardian.
The life of a Guardian was simple enough. What made the Trinum members so respected was the mere fact that they were just older, powerful, and move experienced versions of Rose and her kind. They did what their name entailed. They guarded people. But not just any people. They guarded the powerful. They guarded future Guardians.
In over a thousand years of service to the Trinum that’s all she knew about her kind. That they guarded the future of their kind. Plain and simple. Kind of like ensuring that their race would never die out.
It was truly a boring life filled with no emotions, no love, not even hate. A Guardian was just a vessel of power. But no Trinum member had ever taken the time to explain why she was so different from the others. Why she, in all the hundreds of them, could feel.
But she really wasn’t the only one who could feel. Vince could; the one she loved. He always could, even before he was made a Guardian. Those feelings never faltered even as he was bestowed with the power. But he never truly mastered what it was to be a true Guardian.
You had to harden your heart.
You killed in cold blood to protect the already powerful. It was something Rose would never fully understand. But then, who understood the Trinum other than the Trinum themselves?
How boring a life they lead, trapped in their black alter, unable to leave its walls in flesh and only in spirit. They might sit around for hours on end, thinking of some ungodly place to send Guardians-in-training to. It was places like those that got most Guardians killed, not confrontations with Humans.
The only reason she survived the tasks the Guardian’s laid out for her was because, no matter how strong her opponents power, she could mirror it, bend it to her will, and end up killing her adversary with their own powers.
It was a shocking way to die.
And as much as it was shocking, it was brutal.
Mac and Vince’s conversation halted, and Mac seemed to be listening to something, though both Rose and Vince couldn’t hear it.
“The Trinum are calling,” Mac said, looking somewhat shocked to being summoned.
Rose mirrored his same bewildered expression.
“They want both you and Vince to come too,” Mac added, staring almost fearfully in Rose’s direction as her emerald eyes filled with fury.
She did not work for them anymore.
The only reason for the Trinum to summon a Guardian like that was because there was trouble that they couldn’t handle on their own.
They were asking too much to go through Mac, her closest, oldest and only friend still connected to the Trinum, to try and win her and Vince back.
But how much trouble could the three most powerful beings of good be in?
Please review. You like it, you don't like it, I want to know!
K! Til next time!!
