This Game Called Life
There was once a little girl
Who wanted to play a game
So she asked her mommy
For any game that she could name
Her mommy spoke up and told her
That life itself is a game
And because she was so busy
She smiled and shooed her away
Her mommy's words stuck in her head
As she laid there that night in her bed
And she figured, "Why not?"
And played with all of her heart
Soon the little girl went to school
For the very first time in her life
She thought it was all really cool
This little girl had never met Strife
The game was getting exciting
Fun, and interesting too
And as she got a little bit older
The game just got better and better
Since she was top in her class
Her mommy decided she would skip one year
She left all her friends behind her
Which made her much, much sadder
She went into high school alone
No one wanted to be by her side
And though she was fourteen then
Every night she cried
She figured she just met an obstacle
In this game she called Life
And she tried to get back together
But her only companion was Strife
On her sixteenth birthday
There was no one at her party
And she didn't have to blow her candles out
Because her mommy forgot it was her special day
She didn't bother to call her mommy at work
She knew she didn't have time
So she tried to keep herself occupied with her game
Like her mommy always told her to try
But she called her mommy at work that night
Because she just got sick of it
"Mom," she said, "I need some help,
You know my game? I broke it."
Her mommy came home late that night
Thinking her little girl was just being silly
But when she went into the kitchen
The sight in there gave her the willies
Her little girl picked up a knife
And said to her mommy, all sober
"You see mommy, I was playing this game called life,
And now I think it's Game Over."
And so her little girl died that night
Because she was too busy to tell her what's right
That life is NOT just a game
