Butterfly

There once was girl with bright blue eyes.
Her hair was the rays of the sunrise.
She pranced around her home in the flowers
Deep down on the dark forest floor
On the tip of her toes wrapped in spider silk.

She lived in completely dark landscape,
A void she wished everyday to escape.
She dreamed of the light on her face,
And the wind in her hair and a wide-open space,
Along with other things she never had in her dark place.

She looked at the bees that buzzed on by,
And thought of a better more perfect way to fly.
She though, perhaps, she should give it a try.
Everyday, she worked and slaved on her own wings,
In her darkness, while her mind dwelled on better things.

Someday, She hoped, I will fly away free.
Someday, I know I will beat Mr. Bee.
Some day came and as it unfurled,
So did the wings of the bright blue-eyed girl
Though it wasn’t a girl that was there, but a butterfly.
