On Top of a Mountain

I wish

I could stay here forever.

The swift breeze

washes over us.

Rustling

your hair.

Reddening

my cheeks.

But

I don’t care.

We’re together

mostly in silence.

But

When words escape

in a jumble of thoughts

you still

understand.

To be.

Just exist.

Looking down...

The world below

oblivious

to my state of bliss.

On top of a mountain,
Your eyes slip shut.

I’m mesmerized.

Your face…

A painting of pure perfection,

Blurring into

a content darkness,

As dreams claim me.

BRRRRIIINNG!

The shrill scream of the bell

Awakens me

Shaken from a midday’s

Reverie.

I look at you.

I understand

But…

no! Going back down

triggers

and eruption of fear.

And suddenly I am

so afraid

I’ll fall.

But you take my hand.

Firmly intertwining

It with yours.

Walking in front, you lead

Me.

Reassuring me,

Every

Other

Second.

All of this means so much to me.

And I love you so much for loving me.

You’ll never know…

Your soft words

absorb my trepidation.

We reach the bottom.

I laugh uncontrollably

Looking up at the steep

slope

We conquered together.
