Thad: I want to tell you something. I know you won’t understand, at least, not as well as I do. Of course I went through it for about eight years of my life, six and two of them consecutive, if you know what I’m talking about. It’s been a year since my last encounter and the pain is still there, it’s relatively fresh in my mind and will be until someone can set me free.
What I’m talking about? Sure, no problem, I think. There are parts of it that get sorta fuzzy: my doctor tells me it’s because of the multiple brain injuries. They tell me I need a few surgeries to fix my mind but I feel pretty good now. Despite some minor bleeding up there, vertigo, and some fainting; I’m here now. Before I go in for brain surgery and everything else that they want to do with my head I’d like to tell you my secret. I’d like to tell you my broken childhood; I’d like to tell you of my broken life.
The scene changes to two boys sitting on their beds, one is twelve and the other is nine. The twelve year old is wearing nothing but boxer shorts; the nine year old is in fuzzy pajama pants with no shirt. There is a scar that runs from the younger boy’s right shoulder blade, over his left shoulder to the edge of his right pectoral. The older boy speaks.Parker: Thaddy, sit on your bed, that pacing makes me nervous.
Thad: But Parker, I don’t want to, I’m too excited, I just got these great new presents and I can’t sleep cause tomorrow we’re gonna go out to dinner, a big dinner, and when Mommy and Daddy get back—
Parker: (Is getting frustrated) When Mom and Dad get back their gonna tan your hide ‘cause you’re not in bed!
Thad: (He jumps into his bed, frightened of Parker’s tone) Parker, are you okay? You look strange.
Parker: (Muttering as he pulls the covers over his head and turns off the lamp) You were always the favorite…
Thad: Hmm?
Parker: Nothing. (He has a thought) Thaddy?
Thad: Hmm?
Parker: Would you do me a favor?
Thad: What kind of favor Parker?
Parker: The kind of favor that Mommy does for Daddy.
Thad: What kind of favor is that?
Parker: I’ll show you, and if you do it I’ll get you a double-decker ice-cream cone of your favorite kind tomorrow at the ice-cream shop. You have to promise not to tell Mommy or Daddy though okay?
Thad: Okay…what is it? (His curiosity is getting the best of him)
Parker gets off his bed and creeps into the other one’s, taking his shorts off under the covers next to his younger brother.
Parker: Okay Thaddy, take off your pajamas. Okay now, flip over on your stomach.
Thad: What are you doing?
Parker: I’ve seen it on TV Thaddy, it’ll feel good, at least I think it will.
Thad: Think?
Parker: Just flip over! (The little boy does and his brother assumes the position) Okay, grab that pillow. That’s right, here we go, promise you won’t tell again, cross your heart and hope to die.
Thad: Okay, cross my heart, hope to die, stick a needle in my eye.
Parker: Alright Thaddy, try not to move.
The scene darkens and the little boy screams in pain.
