Share a Sunset
She walked down the marble stairs
Bewildered at her day
Some exams, some gossip, a mile hike
Her day left her feeling as fragile as clay
Over the grass lawn
Through the small kid's park
She followed her instinct
Listening to the singing lark
Climbing the small hill
She collapsed on the darkening sand
Not noticing the other
She decided she detested the school band
With trumpets and clarinets
A guitar and even some drums
It made her realise
She was lucky she knew how to have some fun
He shifted, making a sound
And so upon him turned her gaze
He stared evenly back at her
Not at all affected by the salty evening's haze
She blinked back a tear
And managed to look away
As she collapsed into the sand
She wished she had made the most of her day
He moved over to her
Taking her small hand
Drawing small shapes on her palm
Her heart began to beat something grand
She wasn't good with boys
That much she knew
Though he looked so debonair
It was evident he had little luck in love too
For who else
On tonight of all nights
Would be sitting on a beach
While others partied with all their mights
He whispered in her ear
Playing with her hair
'As the darkness came comes closer
How will the little ones fair?'
'I don't know' she answered
Looking back at him with a smile
'But there is no one I'd rather spend a sunset with
That will be true for more than awhile'
He stood
And taking her hand
He walked her up the stairs
She knew his heart was hers to command.
