don't you know writing leads to collapsed veins and self-destruction?

i want to be a writer
but poetry makes my parents think
of starving artists
(money you see
that's what matters)

they've made spreadsheets and charts
i'm writing between the bottom lines
and i better find out how it ends
because i'm not listening
to anything they say
so they're taking my pen away
