Make War, Not Love

Chapter 2

I never thought that I was someone easily forgotten. But it seems that even I can make wrong predictions – very rarely though. Ah well… One look at that teacher already told me that she’s the forgetful type who thought that the world should centre more on her. How pathetic.

Moving along…

I know that this is her room. It was easy enough to find out. H-A-C-K anyone? I’m sure that by now, you have the impression that I’m not always on the right side of the law.

And of course, there she was… with an unusual hairstyle. But I’m positive it’s her. Who else would give me such a deadly look besides her? This is going to be so very interesting.

A glare. I expected that. I’ve seen that glare so many times – the glare that could make even the most courageous man flinch and squirm. However, that glare has never been directed at me before. Hmm. Even after two years, she’s still very upset. This may be harder than I thought…

My eyes did a quick scan around the room. After landing on the ebony-haired guy, a.k.a. Zachary Langley, I became a bit more serious. Zachs may also hate my guts right now – in fact, I’m sure he does by the way he’s giving me a warning look.

Zachs Langley is one of the very few people I would rather avoid clashing against. It’s not that I can’t take him but I really have nothing against him. In fact, I respect his talent as a soccer player since I myself am a soccer fan.

“Now, Connor, take any vacant seat you want,” the teacher – was it Mrs. Mickey? Hickey? Whatever – told me. My smirk returned full force as I headed towards the vacant seat behind Miss Zacharee Langley.

As soon as she realized which seat I had chosen, she immediately stiffened as her fingers curled and her nails dug on the desk. She reminded me of a cat with her hackles raised. I always used to call Zach my little kitty. She also used to be affectionate too.

But obviously, not anymore.

I couldn’t help but tease her a bit. As I walked past her – she who was trying to ignore me with such determination – I gently brushed my fingers against her nape. I swear I saw the little hairs rise!

Maybe she really is a cat.

Just as I took my seat, she spun around and glared at me full force.

“Fuck off, Parkes.”

I tsked at her. “Temper, temper. Really, Zacharee, a lady like you should watch her very unattractive language.”

“Fuck you.”

I gave her a coy smile. “Only if it’s by you.”

With a disgusted look on her face, she spun around to look in front. She is obviously determined to forget that I existed and sat right behind her.

Unluckily for her, I don’t plan on letting her forget.

You see, I came here for a reason…

…And that reason is completely opposite to letting her forget all about me.

This is a shitty Monday. A very shitty Monday. First, our whole family wakes up at 1 o’clock in the morning to find the kitchen on fire. Second, my beloved twin sister finds something to blackmail me with. Third, the asshole who broke my sister’s heart strolls into our classroom.

Could it get any worse?

I glanced at my sister and saw that she was on killing mode. Oh boy…

Now let me tell you something about my sister. There’s the old Zacharee and the new Zacharee. The old Zacharee was sweet, affectionate and innocent. She lived life without any worries… and deeply in love with her childhood friend and rival, Connor Parkes. Being the scum of a human being that he is, he destroyed that Zacharee and replaced her with a new one. This one was depressed, bitter and lost all confidence. It was so bad that our mom and dad decided to move us. Now, she’s more her old self but she lost all her innocence. She also now knows how to stand up for herself. But she has a very hard time trusting anyone of the male persuasion. I think that the only reason she doesn’t hate the entire species is because her own twin is a guy, plus she adores our dad very much.

Now, the person who made her miserable is back – probably to ruin her again. I hate him. He’ll never be able to go near my sister again if it’s the last thing I do.

Don’t get me mistaken. I’m not usually a violent person – in fact, I avoided it if I wanted to stay fit and focused on my soccer – but I’m sure that all the brothers out there fell the same way as me.

I could feel the raw anger that Zach is currently feeling – it’s that twin thing. I looked at her and saw that she was having a hard time controlling herself. I watched as her grip snapped a pen in half.

I almost felt sorry for Parkes. Almost.

The bell finally rang.

“First period, everyone,” Mrs. Hickey announced. Duh. As if we don’t know.

Zach was the first to get up. Grabbing Helen’s arm, and then mine, she dragged us out of the room in a quick stride.

I had to admit that her grip was painful. Her eyes were stormy as she stared straight ahead.

“What is he doing here?” she hissed in a dangerously low voice. “Who does he think he is, coming here as if he owned the place?”

“The Parkes are one of the richest families in the- OW!” Helen scowled as she tried to nurse her arm.

“Not helping, Helen,” Zach said in a sing-song voice that was simply threatening. “Ugh! I want to kill something – preferably him!”

“He’s bringing out the worst in you,” I commented lightly. I expected a sharp pain on my arm but instead, she did something that scared me more.

She gave me this chilly smile.

"Then that just proves how despicable he really is,” she told me in a soft voice. I, however, seriously shuddered.

I’ve never seen this side of her before.

Helen gave me a look that said, “I think we should get out of here if we love our lives. She’s on a war path.”

I gave a brief nod and we both pulled away.

“See you later, sis,” I told her as cheerfully as I could. “Maths. You know, my favourite subject.”

“Business,” Helen added. “Business is just wonderful.”

We both winced.

Maths is my worst subject while Helen hated Business.

Oh well… Too late.

Zacharee just nodded and went off. Both Helen and I sighed in relief.

“I’ve never seen her like that before,” Helen whispered to me. “She was fine until that new guy came.”

I gave her a grim look. “She’ll tell you when she’s ready.” Helen nodded in understanding before heading off to her own class.

As I headed towards my own classroom, I passed saw Connor Parkes walking towards the direction I just came from. I met that grey gaze head on. As we walked past each other, I whispered, just enough so he could hear:

Stay away from her.”

He didn’t reply but I’m quite sure that he heard me.

I only give warnings once.

He won’t get a warning again.

zzzzzZachareezzzzz

He’s following me.

No, I’m not being paranoid. He’s following me!

Finding my Art room, I quickly yanked the door open and slipped in. But before I could shut the door close, it was yanked from me. I quickly looked behind me and found grey eyes twinkling down at me.

“You’re in my way, Cat.”

I seethed at his old nickname of me. “You’re not allowed to call me that. In fact, you’re not allowed to address me at all. Now stop following me!”

His smirk only widened. “Following you? Why, this is my Art room. I don’t see how I’m following you. We only happen to go at the same direction.”

We were the first ones in the room so we were alone. Deciding that it was time to confront him, I held myself high and crossed my arms over my chest.

“Why are you here and no shitting me.”

To my surprise, his gaze darkened as his expression became serious. At that moment, I remembered why I had been attracted to him in the first place. Those eyes could tell you everything – and yet still hold back what you are searching for. It was so full of mystery – and yet, so full of emotion. I had often dreamt of his eyes before.

“I want you back,” he whispered, longing in his voice. “I want my goddess back.”

I stared at him in shock. But before I could recover, his smirk was back.

“Why do you think, Cat?”

He was playing with me! The bastard was playing with me!

One minute he was smirking, the next, my fist was buried into his handsome face. I was happy to say that the sound I heard was most satisfying.

“Take that you pig,” I said, grinning in satisfaction. When he looked at me through his hand, which he used to cover his face, my expression turned serious.

“The Zacharee Langley you knew doesn’t exist anymore. Unlike that Zach, I won’t ever let you hurt me a second time. Do you hear me, Parkes? Never again.

Without taking a look back, I turned and went towards my seat.

That felt very good. That took a lot of my anger out.

I want to do it again.

zzzzzConnorzzzzz

I stared at her in disbelief. I guess she must really hate me.

What to do…?

Hmm…

Well, first of all, I better stop the blood running down from my nose. I don’t think she broke it but it hurts like hell.

She looks so smug about it too. Tch.

Unfortunately for her, the teacher arrived and seeing as she’s the only person inside the room besides me, he sent her to the principal’s office and sent me to the nurse.

No matter how clichéd it is, if looks could kill, I’d have bigger problems than a bleeding nose.

But then again, I would’ve punched someone to if I did what I just did. You see, that’s my biggest problem:

Pride.

I’m having a hard time admitting I do want her back. Actually, I think I might be on my death bed before I tell her that without backing out on it. So, in order to satisfy my pride and my – shiverscoughheartcough, I decided to get her back my own way…

…Except, it’s not really working, is it?

Ah, well…

I’m smart. I’ll think of something. All I know is that I’m not going to do it the traditional way. You know, giving flowers, writing poetry and shit. No way!

So what am I gonna do?

You’ll just have to wait.

The genius is at work.

A/N: Woah! I haven’t written something like that… Well, what do you think?

Review Replies:

Emeraldied – This chapter is dedicated to you! …Along with the girl who gave me the inspiration for Zach’s house burning down. Aww, shucks! You love my ideas? You’re flattering me too much! I hope you like this chapter. Don’t worry, I have the other chapters in the works. I just need to hunt down for my forever appearing and disappearing muses. Oh muses! My lovely muses! LOL.

Tirtreaton – I’m glad you like it so far. What about now? And yes, Zach is very pissed.

Elena-maria – Yeah… It’s not my best but I’m working on it. I always write these chapters late at night after doing homework… Homework. Tch.
