in the end

by spootasia tomoe

--

--

I told her to run but she said that she couldn’t

I told her I’d help her escape but she said that she wouldn’t

She wanted to love him and I warned her she shouldn’t

She asked me to just support her but I knew that I didn’t

because despite my closed eyes I knew I could see so, that bastard,

the reason, the end, I could see it in his grin

I told her to flee but she laughed in her lace

as she twirled and she spun it

and glanced in her mirror, the shadows there seeming

no lighter, no thinner, but her smile brimming distracted her

I turned away and let my eyes drift to a corner

I knew better, but he was her lover

And now look at that corpse in the casket

I stared into its dark depths and her dead, paling

face and told her that this was the end of it for me

I guess friendship doesn’t last forever; only ‘till

death do us part or crossing the pond or when

we forget to breathe while smoking our best friend’s

stash.

It never lasts. Either you’ll leave me or I’ll leave you-

That’s when I decided to end it.
