Memories:

Memories are the tricky sort.
Because, they never stay the same.
They distort.

Laying the summer grass for the last
time with your friend called best,
how did I miss that moment as it passed?

Memories are bittersweet,
your first honesty,
your first deceit.

Or maybe that first crush.
Terrible, horrifying,
a singular magnificent rush.

I've often wondered why we feel so much,
emotions, memories
seem a rather weak crutch.

Living, and discovering life itself,
needs memories.
Therein exists self.

Memories like lyrics to your favorite song.
How you used to stumble over the words,
and get them all wrong.

Summer camp in a warm haze.
Arts and Craft, halcyon summer friends.
The good days.

Memories like your favorite book.
A solace in the mind,
an indefinite mental nook.

Your favorite food right sitting right there...
Takes self control, doesn't it?
Until you learned of those extra calories, beware...

Memories like the people around you.
Whether you met them or not,
they shaped you.

Look someone in the eyes.
Memories reflect.
Always find the surprise.

You'd be amazed.
