Dreams and Reality
By: K
A voice called out for her. Somewhere in the back of her mind.
She closed her eyes. Wanting the voice to disappear, to leave her alone… But it didn’t. Instead it kept on calling her louder and louder.
Why couldn’t it leave her alone? It hurted enough already…
Her hands covered her ears. She didn’t want to hear it anymore… And luckily it stopped…
A soft sigh escaped her lips. The hands fell back down, resting on her knees. She opened her eyes, but everything was a blur… She hadn’t noticed that tears had formed themselves… Blinking she made them disappear.
And suddenly it started again. His soft worried voice. Calling her name with so much tenderness and love.
She couldn’t take it anymore. She jumped up furiously, making the chair fall backwards with a loud ‘thud’.
“NO! STOP IT! Just stop it!” Her voice was hard, sad and desperate.
And again it did. Silence fell down, only to be broken by her soft cries…
Needing some fresh air she walked over to the open window. The wind dried the tears on her face. The sun smiled at her. White clouds drifted over.
She held her breath when she looked down. There, in her garden… There he was. Standing tall and proud, like always. His half-long hair held together. Just a few strands playing with the wind. His green eyes were shinning. She could see it, even from that distance…
He smiled and waved. Calling her name again.
She took a step back. Surprise written all over her face. Some hope shone again in her blue eyes.
And then she also smiled. Calling to him that he had to wait a second ‘till she was down.
Running down the stairs, her heart was singing. Should someone have seen her, they could have sworn she was shining and almost flying to the garden…
‘He’s here. Impossible but true! How come? I can’t believe it! But he’s here. Standing right there, under my window. He’s still here…’
She almost ran through the backdoor (luckily it was already open). Not wanting to waist even more time. How she longed for his arms. His gentle caresses. His soft kisses…
She held still. There he was. Still standing at the same place. Opening his arms for her.
And she immediately ran to him. Wanting to feel him, to hold him close to her.
She felt like floating on the air. His smiling face coming closer and closer. Finally she reached him, but when she would at last feel him again, he disappeared. She ran right through him. He was not there. He never was. It was only her imagination. Tears ran down freely. It hurted so much and she wanted nothing more than to be with him. In his arms. Forever.
A bird started to sing. She closed her eyes. And suddenly she understood. It wasn’t just a fantasy. It wasn’t just a game of her mind. It was him. He was really there. Saying goodbye. Telling, asking, begging her to go on. To live life at it’s fullest. To be happy. And she promised him she would do that. Because she knew that one day she would truly see him again. Someday… Soon or not… But she would wait patiently for that day to arrive. She wouldn’t let him down… Not now. Never…
