Part 1: Setting Out
--
“So what do we do now?” Ayla asked as everyone sat in the living room of Chen’s apartment. “Chris betrayed us and took Luna and Cassius with him and those...bastards…”
“The things we don’t know are why they were taken and where.” Chen replied. “I already know my mother will make me fight her in order to get Luna back but I don’t know why Cassius was taken.”
“They’ll pay for this, I swear.” said Amy. “Wherever they are, we’ll find them.”
“Do you think you can take her?” Mark Anthony asked. “It has been awhile since you’ve crossed swords with someone.”
“Honestly, no.” Chen replied. “Not as I am, anyway. “I think it would be wise if I sought the Sword of Swords.”
“You mean my niece, Aeris.” He replied. “I haven’t seen her since the war started but the last I heard she’s somewhere in the Colorado Mountains.”
“That’s a good start.” Chen replied. “Once we know for sure I’ll head out immediately.”
“You mean alone?” Amy asked her.
“I’ll be fine.” She replied. “And besides, this is something I must do alone. My mother and I will fight and the lives of two children demand I win. I am sorry but this is something I must do. You’ve all been good to me and you are welcome to wait here until I return.”
“It would be a good idea for us to leave this base.” Ayla said. “Now that the feds know where it is they’ll come back in full force. We’d be dead before you got back.”
“I see your point…” Chen said, thinking hard. “I can’t leave Sun here alone, either…”
“You know, I have a place in Key West we could hide out in.” Charles suddenly said. Everyone turned to him. Up until now he was silent. “I bought it before I met Ayla and no one will know we’re there. We can blend in with the locals, too.”
“I thought that place was seized awhile back?” Ayla asked him. “After a court order with your previous relation or something?”
“I paid the media to write that story.” He replied. “That was my condition for becoming part of the Kenya Special Forces. That house is still in my name and I got there when I want to disappear for awhile.”
“Are you sure it’s safe?” Amy asked. “How do we know we’re not walking into a trap?”
“I am no longer working for the Kenyan Government.” Charles said. “I was bought by America to work for Normandy and Florence, remember? Now that my services have been terminated I am a man without a country.”
“I’m so sorry to hear that.” Ayla replied “The fact that you let those bastards use me as a plaything and take12 of my children from me is far worse than what happened to you, or have you forgotten? You’re lucky I don’t strangle you to death for al the suffering you’ve put me through.”
“If it will help, I will tell you some classified information concerning them.” Charles replied calmly. “Once you hear it, you should understand why you couldn’t keep them.”
“Were all ears.” Chen replied. “Let’s hear it.”
“I will tell you on one condition.” He replied, looking at Amy’s belly in particular.
“What, then?” Ayla asked impatiently.
Suddenly, General Hale and several soldiers burst into the house. “The squadron that cut down our forces in Cairo is headed this way!” He exclaimed. “We need to get you all out of here!”
“Let’s go, then.” She replied.
“That would be the condition.” Said Charles. “That we get out of here alive so I can tell it to you.”
Escorted by soldiers, the group went the runway and boarded The Aerojet. Now with a small crew they plane was readied for departure almost instantly. The destination was Key West Florida, USA.
“We’ll hold them back as best we can.” General Hale said as the aircraft powered up.
“Try not to get yourself killed, General.” Chen replied. “If the situation looks bleak order an evacuation. We may be a militant group but no one needs to die needlessly.”
“Will do, ma’am.” He replied, giving her a salute as the hatch closed. Chen returned it and then found a seat.
“Where is my daughter?” Chen asked as the plane quickly moved down the runway.
“On board.” Mark Anthony replied, pointing to the crib fastened to the seat next to Ayla. “I had extra things installed just for this.”
--
The plane took off and cleared the mountains shortly before the Bombers moved in. As they got further from the base the sounds of explosions and artillery fire faded in the distance.
“Think they’ll be ok?” Amy asked Chen.
“General Hale is a very smart man.” She replied. “Somehow he will find a way to repel them and minimize casualties.”
“I hope you are right. “Amy replied before getting up to go to the bathroom. When she headed back to her seat she bumped into Charles.
“I, ah…need to talk to you for a minute.” He said, all the while staring at her pregnant belly.
“I don’t bite, you know.” She said, a little annoyed with the way he was looking at her. “And no, you cannot touch my belly.”
“If you don’t mind my asking, do you know what you’re having?” he asked her.
“What’s it to you?” she asked, putting a hand protectively over her stomach. “I’m not going to give it to you.”
“You mean it’s not human?” He asked, raising an eyebrow. “What are you having, then?”
“Of course it’s human!” Amy exclaimed. “And what the hell are you talking about?”
“I just wanted to know if you were having a Crossbreed or not.” Charles said calmly. “If not, then you’ll be fine.”
“Now you’re really starting to creep me out..” Amy said but suddenly grabbed her stomach, moaning in pain.
What is it?” he asked her.
“Something’s going on with the baby!” Amy gasped as she lifted her shirt. They both watched as some…thing twisted and contorted inside Amy’s womb, causing her to cry out. When it stopped as suddenly as it started they looked at each other.
“’I didn‘t know the baby could move that fast.” She said.
“Something tells me that’s no ordinary baby.” Charles said as they both stared at her belly. Whatever was growing inside her certainly wasn’t human…

Creepy, huh? I’ll admit I borrowed that from a popular TV show but I made it my own, right? Next chapter we’ll learn a bit more from Charles what may be a turning point in their struggle.
