Slipping Away

The picture of us on your phone
replaced
by a tropical landscape

Hour-long phone calls
are no more
Now I sit and wait
by the phone
for that special ring
that signals you are
thinking about me

Lunch comes
and you sit far away
"There's no chair"
is all that you say
when I'm pointing
to the empty one
right beside me

I try
to get you to open up
but you are as closed
as ever

We need to talk
I need to get these feelings out in the open
to go back
to the way we were.

Written 3/17/06. For my Miche; we really do need to talk.
