Sister of the Shinobi
A/n- This is the third poem in the Shinobi series. Please read the first two poems ‘Shinobi of the Shinsengumi’ and ‘Shinobi of the Chosuu’ before reading this one, or, you can choose not to read them, and read this as an individual poem. Thank you!
--
The rain splashes down on the empty streetWhere are you, my onee-chan?
Your duty should be finished by now
But why haven’t you come?
--
Wait, I see someone coming
But it doesn’t look like you
I see three people heading here
And…I see our father too.
--
But what is it they are carrying?
Oh…no…that’s a body…
I have a bad feeling about this
Why is everyone looking so sorry?
--
…………
Black…black…and white.
Funeral colors dot the hall
I stand next to your body
And the tears just start to fall
--
My onee-chan was the best shinobi
The Shinsengumi was proud of her
She loved her work and she loved me
I’m her little shinobi sister.
--
She encouraged me to train hard
She was my number one hero
I wanted to be like her
Not a pathetic zero.
--
No one liked me
To them I was her ‘ relation’.
“Come on, Megu-chan, you can it.”
Her words gave me elation.
--
But now she is gone.
Darn it, just who killed you?
Who took your life away?
I wanted your name from father
But he would only say…
--
“Megu-chan, he is dangerous. Do not go after him.”
I nodded my head
I said I understood
But at night his words were dim
--
As I took out my kunai
My mind was filled with revenge.
You killed my sister
So I’ll kill you
Her death I will avenge.
--
As I go into Chosuu territory
You will wonder what’s my game
I’ll say I’m the sister of the Shinobi
And Megu-chan is my name.

The end

Chosuu- A rival of the Shinsengumi, that protested against a modern Japan
Onee-chan- big sister
Kunai- darts that ninja use as weapons
A/n2- The rivalry of the Shinsengumi and Chosuu in the set of poems is different from the actual historical Shinsengumi and Chosuu. The poems are loosely based on them. This for your information.
