Had to write it for school lol. Very long OneShot. Enjoy! :)
“Why didn’t you tell me we had a test today?!” My best friend, Julian, asked me. It was late Monday morning and we were standing by our lockers getting ready for History, our third period class. The class we had a huge test in today. I shrugged.
“I thought you knew,” I replied honestly as he snatched his History book out of his locker and started flipping through the pages in a panic.
“Chapter six…” I told him, hoping it would help. He mumbled a “thanks” of some sort and continued flipping pages.
The bell rang suddenly, startling both of us.
“Ready?” I asked him. He nodded doubtfully and we proceeded to class.
Miss Haney sat at her desk, hands folded neatly atop her grade book. She stood without a word and passed our tests out. I glanced over at Julian, his face twisted in a grimace. A slap of paper on my desk brought me to attention. I began the test. I was halfway through it when I heard hushed whispers next to me. I turned and was stunned to see Julian whispering to the kid in front of him.
“C’mon! What’s question two?” The kid in front of him shook his head and went back to his test. My jaw dropped. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
“Aimee, is there a problem?” Miss Haney asked me. I shook my head quickly and returned to my test. I just couldn’t get it through my head that Julian was cheating.
“What?” He asked, turning to face me, a look of frustration creasing his face.
“Did I just…were you…Were you cheating in there?” He shrugged.
“No…I was just ‘borrowing’ the answers.”
“So in other words, yes you were.” He shrugged again and continued down the hall, leaving me angry and confused.
“Julian, I never expected this from you. You’re one of my best students.” Miss Haney was saying.
“I was looking over the tests and these two happen to look quite similar.” There was a slight rattling of paper.
“I’m not meaning to imply anything but…”
“I didn’t cheat!” I heard Julian’s voice.
“These answers are the exact same.”
“So…you know what they say, great minds think alike!” Julian tried to play a joke.
“I’m sorry, Julian, but until I know better I’m putting your grade in as a zero.” He left the room then and walked right past me. I hurried to catch up.
“Julian!” He turned to look at me.
“What do you want, Aimee?!” He sounded angry.
“Were you really cheating?”
“It’s none of your business.”
“What? Since when is it none of my business?”
“Just stay out of this, Aimee!” He stormed away, leaving me angry and even more confused, yet again.
I met her though at the end of class.
“Yeah.”
“What I’m wondering is, did you happen to notice any improper behavior during the test on Monday?” Oh no. My worst fear had come true. I hesitated. How could I turn my best friend in?
“Well…”
“I’m sorry I just couldn’t lie like that.”
“It’s ok.” I looked up, taken by surprise.
“Really?” He nodded.
“Yeah it was bound to come out sometime.” I smiled. He smiled back and took off in the opposite direction. I guess it was one of those weird things I won’t understand. I shrugged to myself and walked away.
The ending kind of sucks but I showed it to my mom and she said I couldn't have Aimee lie because I go to a Catholic school and "what would people think?" So yeah.
