Young Love plus Summer Romance equals Broken Hearts

Though some older and wiser
May have told us of our plight
Having we but simple hearts
We walked out into the night

We talked about our greatest fears
The secrets weighing down our souls
We wanted to be free
But time and fear had us controlled

I kissed his face and he kissed mine
We felt this love, so deep, so fine
And morning crept up, tonight became today
And we, forbidden lovers, fled far, far away

I held his hand and he held mine
And we both knew we were out of time
I had to leave him then
We loved so deeply but to no purpose

We had one night of courtship
And the price was by no means small
Maybe we would have been better off
Not falling in love at all

As the plane lifts off
I can't tell if the drops on the window
Are my tears
Or the rain wetting me to the bottom of my soul

And even after all these years
I can't tell if they're just raindrops
Or my tears
