Apology

A young man stumbled and fell on pavement
Liquor flowed out of his clutched hand
He pulled himself up, for he had a plan
He had to set things right tonight

Hours before was a lovers quarrel
A very heated one at most
Now he was alone with his sorrows:
Their great relationship came to a close

The drunk hobbled onto the dark driveway
His wrecked mind plotting what to say
Until lights and a roar blind his sense
As the van crashed through his frail defenses

His lover got out of the van and ran to him;
The young man could not hide his smile
Through horrible injuries he did send
The quiet 'sorry' that made all worthwhile

She wiped strands of hair away from his eyes
She gazed straight at him in the face
"I'm sorry too..."
She stood up, got back into the van, and started the engine
"I'll make sure this one kills you."
