(Epilogue)

A Television was turned on, in some house in California, tuned intothe local news station.

"And our new breaking story…" the reporter began "Two young men on a road trip had been driving at very high speeds, going on the interstate when witnesses report seeing a "sketchy" car ,that seemed to be chasing close behind the two men. A few different witnesses had called it in and told the authorities that the two cars were turning off the highway and heading for one of the back-roads.And that they couldn't see into the'sketchy' care because it was tinted too dark.From what the police have told us, the two young men had been going at least eighty miles an hour on Ashle Lake Road, just outside of Salvation City. When they hit a pothole and flipped. The car had flipped a dozen times and hit a few trees."

The young woman listening to the broadcast turned up the volume and paid closer attention. A few pictures flashed up on the screen showing the tangled remains of Marcus's car.

"Luckily the authorities had been able to save the two young men...the authorities had brought ambulances and found the totaled car with both young men still inside. The driver, whose name is not given to us, was unconscious and the passenger, whose name was also not given to us, was delusional but conscious. The ambulance brought the two men to the Salvation hospital and had put them in a room together, the driver in an intensive care unit bed and the passenger in a regular standard bed."

The young woman's fiancé came down the stairs and held his soon to be wife in his arms. They both listened as the reporter finished her story.

"It appears that when the only nurse on call was out for a smoke break. An man that had entered a few moments before her break, signing in as Ashton Massey, had entered the hospital and went into the room where the two men were. From the report that the authorities issued to us we have learned that the passenger was Viciously and brutally raped. And the driver, now paralyzed from the neck down, was conscious the whole time… but could do nothing but watch."

The young woman was awe struck, what was this world comming to? She began toweep in her fiancé's arms. Her fiancé hushed her and held her tighter. The newscaster's words hung heavy in their home.

"Authorities have been trying to get a word or two from the driver but he has done nothing but stare off into space...
And the passenger…
well that is the oddest thing…

I spoke to the sheriff of Salvation myself and he told me, in confidence, that the passenger was so…"

the reporter chose her words carefully,

"so…

torn…

that he was put in intensive care and…"

she sat up straight and held her head high with… pride?

"he died of blood loss and rupturing of his internal organs…
and I will probably be fired for saying that…
the producers are alreadygiving me dirty looks,
but I thought it was best the truth be told…
break?
Commercial?"

the woman said to someone off camera, she nodded and hen looked at the camera.

"If you have read the recent reports about the woman in New York I find similarities to the cases…

but I can find no proof, nor am I someone in authority…" With some sarcasim in her voice,

"so I leave it to our wonderful police…

If you have information please call the local authorities…
