Night Walk

H. C. Sluys

In the dark dusty street
Where the two of us meet
At a time when all lie in their beds
There's a bench on our walk
And we rest there and talk
About what's going on in our heads

There's a sky full of clouds
The dim stars in their shrouds
Looking down upon us from on high
Sing a sorrowful song
As though they could prolong
The time here between you and I

Yet with each icy breath
The world frozen in death
We are numb to the passage of time
I can see that your heart
Sets each moment apart
From the ringing of each hour's chime

Though the stillness must drown
With the dawn coming down
And the sun tear asunder the night
Our love's real to me
As the blue morning sea
In my country of magic and light
