THE AIRPORT

CHAPTER ONE- THE MAN

The man shut the car door and went around to the trunk of the cab to get his baggage. The taxi driver drove away after he got paid.

The man began walking casually inside the airport when his phone rang.

“Hello?” He answered. “No…mom…yes…no…mom…I’ll come back in six months to make sure you’re settle…because I have to get back to work tomorrow…mom…I stayed an extra day already…I should be home right now…listen I have to go...love you.” He turned off the phone and continued his walk inside the airport.

Cory Smith, 26, a native of the city of Portland walked to the surprisingly short line of the registration. Only five minute wait.

“Good morning, sir,” the lady at the desk greeted Smith happily. Cory smiled at her as he handed hier his information.

“You seem cheerful this morning,” Cory said making polite conversation.

“It’s been a cheerful morning,” she replied typing away on the computer. After she was done she gave him his ticket and information.

“Thanks,” Cory said.

“Good day, Mr. Smith,” she said with a grin on her lips. He smiled and walked to the security line.

Cory waited patiently and kept to himself as he waited for his turn. An occasional beep beep signaled someone forgetting something with metal. Cory checked his watch. After a few seconds he stepped forward and the two middle aged women began to gossip.

“I guess the drama hasn’t stopped since high school, huh?” A woman with graying hair said to her friend.

“No, I guess not. I still can’t believe he did that,” her friend replied. She obviously still seemed upset about whatever happened. Cory rolled his eyes. He remembered all the drama he had at his high school.

Cory took off his shoes and placed them in a tray. In the next two trays he put in his bag and laptop. He then stepped through the metal detector without incident. After putting on his shoes, he grabbed his laptop and he made his way to the screen where he can check his flight. He scanned the lists of flights. Cory finally found his and read the words. His shoulders sank when he read that his flight has been delayed for four hours. Cory turned and started walking through the throng of people to a lounge to have a beer.
