Chapter Thirteen
Ryan stared at the wall opposite him sitting on the edge of the bed in the early hours of the morning. Every time he tried to sleep the same memories were replayed in his mind. Her face was there staring back at him.
Lyra at the same time was wide awake clutching a pillow to her. The tears had started to subside and exhaustion was beginning to set in but like Ryan she kept replying what had been earlier. His face that cold look he gave her she had hurt the most important person on the world to her and in turn he had hurt her in the worst possible way by never being there again.
“We live in London it’s a big place so I believe I can” Ryan replied.
“Look she made a mistake. A big mistake I admit but you love the girl. Your doing yourself more harm than good by staying away.” He warned
“Are entire relationship was a lie!” he burst out.
“You were using her at the beginning as well” he countered
Ryan was silent for a moment “Yes I did”
“So you’re going to talk to Lyra and make up?” he asked hopefully hoping that he would see the light.
“No” came back the blunt reply.
“Where’s Suzie when you need some sense knocking into you?!”
“Just leave my love life alone” he cried out banging his fists onto the table.
“I’m not going to let you lose someone you love more than your own life”
“But does she love me the same way?” he asked Ronny to which the reply was the cold silence of the flat around them.
“You can’t go Lyra!” Abby wailed watching as Lyra finished packing her bags.
“I can and I am” she replied.
“But you belong here”
“Abby there are just too many memories around here. I just need to get away for a while sort myself out.” She said trying to make her friend understand.
“I’m going to miss you”
“Me too” The two of them shared a farewell hug.
“Aren’t you going to tell Ryan you’re leaving?” Abby asked.
“He’s made it perfectly clear that he doesn’t want anything else to do with me.”
“”He’s just hurt and upset just give him the option at least.” she reasoned.
“Okay” Lyra caved in seeing Abby’s pouting face.
“He’s staying at Ronny’s”
“How do you know that?”
“Chris told me here” she handed Lyra her mobile.
“Its gone to the answer machine” she said
“Then leave a message.” Abby urged.
“Um uh this is Lyra. This is a message for Ryan. I heard through the grape vine he’s staying here.” she paused for a moment trying to think what to say. “I just wanted to say again how sorry I am for what I did. I never meant it to go as far as it did and I meant what I said before too. I love you more than you could possibly ever know. I’m leaving to stay with some of my family down in Summerset. I don’t know if I’ll be coming back. I thought I’d let you know just in case you well I’m not sure” she took a deep breathe. “I suppose to give you a chance to stop me from going. My train leaves at 12.45 on platform 3. So I guess this is good bye.”
“What are you going to do?” Ronny asked his brother having just listened to the message.
“I don’t know" he replied truthfully before walking out of the door to think on his own about everything.
“Lyra! She turned in the direction where she had heard the voice slowly opening her eyes tears already cascading down her face.
“I didn’t think he would come.”
"He's making the biggest mistake of his life not stopping you" Ronny replied slightly out of breathe.
"You can't blame him after what I’d done to him."
"But love can concur all" he cried.
"Its nice to think that way but it just doesn't happen in the real world Ronny not all relationships end up happily ever after no matter how much you whished they did they just don't"
"We're all going to miss you so much." Ronny said after a moments silence between them.
"Well there is an invention called the telephone along with email and you could always get on a train and come see me"
"Defiantly." He said. Just in case Ryan ever did change his mind about Lyra.
"I've got to go Ronny" she said looking at the time.
"I wish you didn’t. Stay sort this with him” he pleaded.
“Ronny if I and Ryan were ever going to sort this out he would be where you are standing now”
“Just answer me one question before you go truthfully” he asked her.
“If you’re quick” she sighed out.
“Were you ever going to finish the plan?”
“No” she looked into Ronny’s chest nut eyes “I loved your brother too much. Now I’ve really got to go” She steeped onto the train dragging her suitcases after her.
“Look after yourself” he said giving her a quick hug before going back onto the platform
“I will.” She replied to him just as the doors closed.
Ronny waved to her from the platform she gave him a half hearted wave back in response as she settled herself into her seat.
As soon as the train had pulled out the station she could already feel the distance between herself and Ryan. She hoped for her sake as well as Ryan’s that it would help them to recover from what had happened.
She had set out to tame the playboy and had succeeded she realised. It just seemed she didn’t know how to keep him which was what she had really wanted all along.
