Right in Front of You

CHAPTER1: THE GROUP

Every night before I go to sleep I always ask myself one question. Why me?

I woke up from my deep slumber in order to get ready for school. I always tell my friends and myself that 6 hours of school is way too much. They always say that I over-exaggerate too much. That’s me the drama queen.

By the way my name’s Alexandra, but my friends call me Ally (actually only one of them calls me Ally) or Alex for short. I’m sixteen and in the eleventh grade. I live in a small town called Mooresville. I have two names for it boresville or snoresville (it all depends on my mood). But I guess it’s not a bad place once you get used to it.

I go to school at Mooresville High home of the “dragons.” If you ask me I think it’s all a bunch of crap, our school teams (if you can even call them that) aren’t even fierce. Oh and don’t even get me started on the cheerleaders (you know who I’m talking about). They’re all just bimbos with pom–poms. And yet all the guys drool over them especially the jocks. I guess you can say that in a normal crowd of teenagers I stand out. It’s not that hard to find me just look for the girl with no school spirit. Oh but don’t worry I’m not the only one who stands out just look for my group of friends.

Well first there’s Jessica your average good girl… that is until she met us she’s brunette with green eyes and if it looks like she just escaped from private school it’s because she did. Next you got Bobby he’s the rebel out of all of us. He’s tall has jet-black hair and ice blue eyes. If you can’t spot him just look for a grungy punk rocker you’ll know him when you see him. Then there’s Eric he has blonde hair and blue eyes (don’t worry he’s not a prep, he’s not even “all American” though he looks that way). Did I mention he’s got a “thing” for Jessica? (She doesn’t even have a clue but everyone else in the group knows). Me I’ve got black hair with blue streaks I’ve got purple eyes (just kidding they’re contact lenses. I have two different colored eyes one’s blue and the other’s green. It’s sort of a birth defect. There’s another issue that Bobby knows. I have anxiety disorder. I freak out when I’m put in really bad situations.

“Hey Ally you coming?” Speaking of Bobby I got to go (he’s the one who calls me Ally). I’m late for algebra. “Good morning class take out your textbooks and yesterday’s homework.” Everyone else except me takes out their assignment. “Ms. Smith is there a good reason as to why your assignment is not here?” I look at him nervously I have to come up with a good excuse. “Umm… well you see Mr. Thomas the reason my homework isn’t here is because I had a doctor’s appointment and I had to take some antibiotics which caused me to fall asleep right away until the next day. The doctor said it’s supposed to cure my insomnia.” Mr. Thomas looked at me suspiciously “You don’t have insomnia Ms. Smith and unless you don’t tell me the truth you’re going to have detention for a week.” My jaw literally dropped I haven’t gotten a week’s detention since I started that food fight in 8th grade. “A week’s detention Mr. Thomas that’s not fair! Just because I forgot to do my homework you’re going to give me a week’s detention?” Mr. Thomas didn’t even care that his punishment sucked. “Good day Ms. Smith see you next week.” I hate this class “Whatever.” That was all I said before I grabbed my stuff and left for detention.
