A piece of glass

Fragile and thin

Yet it bars me completely

From the world on the other side

The world that you’re in

Your light shines so bright

That it warms me on this side

And I smile because of you

I see you happy

And I see you upset

But always I see you from a distance

That I just can’t lessen

It’s like standing on the beach

With the waves tugging at me

But the sand holds me in place

I hate that wall

And I want to break it

But I’m afraid that the broken pieces of glass

Will hurt too much

I’m scared to shatter the wall

Scared to leave the side I know

So I stand on the barrier

That’s separating me from you

And my tears only streak the glass
