My Angel

You are my lovely angel,

The life inside my soul,

With my arms around you

I feel like I am whole.

Before you came, I was not me

To total darkness I had fallen,

Believing in no love for me

My heart broken, loveless, torn.

I drowned in life, my love submerged

Beneath a frozen surface,

Then your dark eyes broke through to me

I ascended, now with purpose.

To hold you near and squeeze you tight,

That’s all I want to do,

To kiss your cheek and then your lips

And whisper ‘I love you.’

I know that as my angel

You exist just my dreams,

Someone real to only me

Who by others, can’t be seen.

But in my mind we’ll always be

Drifting through each night,

On wings as soft as the air itself,

With a love that’s starlight-bright.
