Memories of You

The anxiety of meeting you

Still makes me smile today.

We were waiting for rides home

In the summer heat after swim practice.

Hi, I’m Emily, What’s your name?”

was all you had to say.

It’s amazing when the life you find

You want to leave behind all of the

Sudden goes too quickly.

My first memory of you is

Definitely your unfailing faith

In God. You made me want to

Feel that faith, to be truly Christian.

Memories of the past three years fly by,

Meeting your teammates for the first time,

Playing the toughest music you’ve ever played,

The terror of the first ever speech meet.

We met barely six months ago, sharing

The same friend in Emily for 3 years, yet

Never knowing the other’s name. We even

Had the same biology class. I know I can always

Count on you, that you’ll have my back, and I’ll

Have yours.

Of course, you have photographs of it all, a little

Piece of each memory captured forever in case

Of forgetfulness. They can bring back every whim,

Every emotion felt, but it’s never the same as living

Through it all for the first time.

The first words you ever spoke to me were:

May I have this dance?” at commencement

the year before. Speech was wicked awesome,

poetry all the way man! Now your commencement

approaches, and I’ll be losing you too.

It really is amazing how all this time flies

By and we never know what we have until

It’s gone. But I guess all we can do

Is remember what we’ve been and all

We’ve done, and move on.

I’ll always have these memories of

You.
