Dear Friend,
Firstly, I apologize for the formatting on this poem. I've tried to align it correctly several times, but it always reverses to the condition you see now. Secondly, this is my first poem uploaded on fictionpress (I believe it's about the 206 I've written, but who's counting, really?), and I would appreciate contstructive criticism. Thank you so much for checking it out.
Bitter Irony
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The first time that I saw your face
I felt the promise of love divine
The first time you took me in your embrace
I felt that Heaven could all be mine
And on that day we chanced to meet
The thrill I felt alone surpassed
The echoed words in my heartbeat
When they warned, this too shall pass
And when our love, surpassed by none,
Came first in both our hectic lives
The thought that you were my only one
From other thoughts my attention deprived
And on that day we found our love
That love we felt alone surpassed
Words, all too reminiscent of,
My heart’s warning, this too shall pass
And oh, how soon those words came true!
A night would come that knew no end
Unless it were the end of you,
My life, my love, my everything, my friend!
And on that day we said goodbye
The pain I felt alone surpassed
With tear and heavy-hearted sigh
My heart’s comfort, this too shall pass
And now I find myself alone
With only memory to embrace
My heart within me turns to stone
And tries those memories to erase
And I rue the day we chanced to meet
I rue the cold that would surpass
The echoed lies in my heartbeat
That try to say, this too shall pass
