Priced Escape

Dark curtains fall around,
Silky, crimson red and black.
Time stands still, unmoving.

Soft brush of flesh
Moves wind-blown hair
Behind a curled ear.

Eyes, full to flooding
With tears of hurt,
Turn to meet him.

Beauty is not enough
To describe the body,
Of more than angels.

Silver wings flutter,
To fly to freedom,
Yet the wind is enemy.

Again, soft fingers
Touch her white skin,
Shivers run down.

Her face is pulled
To meet his own,
Full of darkness.

His dark, full lips
Pull closer, nearer,
Crushing the gap
Between the two.

Fright fills the mind,
Ice turns colder,
Silent scream of help.

Memories sweep past,
Fill her clouded sight;

A bright forest glen,
Tranquil water blue,
Colorful leaves rustle.

Travels to cities,
Dress of royalty,
Rags of peasantry.

One young man,
Mysterious, yet known.
Gentle touch, sweet kiss,
Lovely night, lovely love.

A small baby’s laugh,
When held in arms,
The coo of the bairn.

A kingdom of many,
Falling into darkness,
Their light now gone
Surrounded all eternally
With curtains falling,
Of crimson red and silk black.

The light restored
Into flooded eyes.
New hope restored
Into broken wings.

Strength renewed
Into the weak fragility,
And a smile appears.

She pushes the face
Of dark, sadness, evil,
Away to the other side.

Running from captor
Following the dream
Of what once was.

Pulled back hard,
As if caught by lasso.
Anger heats her body,
Giving back warmth.

Wings flutter out,
Wind twirls around,
A cord of bonding
Snaps cleanly off.

Flying free at last,
Back to the past,
The small and simple,
The royal and elegant.

Yet, it is not over yet.
A part of her heart,
A part of her soul,
Is left in those
Black and red curtains,
Held onto by that
Dark face now with
An evil grin.
