My Polaris Hero

By Matthew Gallagher

Introduction

We begin this adventure on the planet Ke'lar'ly, a technologically advanced planet which orbits the star Polaris, the North Star. In the grand city of Polaria, the capital of Ke'lar'ly, life was easy. Someone from Earth would consider the life in Polaria the perfect life, simple, no crime, even with it's strict codes and laws, everyone loved one another. Life seemed perfect for all in Polaria, except for one Polaran man, and that man's name is Ory'hara.

Ory'hara was a troubled man, for his job he feared would soon get him put to the death penalty. His occupation among the great ringed city was a Interspecies Investigatory Specialist. His job was simple, to watch a specified human to make sure nothing new changed on planet Earth. This specific human was a human girl named Lillian Highwater, a 21 year old college student. He had been watching her entire life, which was much shorter to him than you perceive, due to time difference with the worlds. Still, he had watched her grow up into a smart, beautiful young girl. Now, however, her life was seemingly in danger, as everyday now he saw she was being followed by a group of strange men, all of them big, clothed in black. Black, in the Polaran society, was a symbol of evil and those who wear it are an immediate threat.

Ory'hara was planning a secret trip to Earth to save her from these evil men, which was illegal to the highest degree in Polaria. The punishment would be death, a price Ory'hara was gladly willing to pay to save Lillian's life. He had requested the magistrate to grant him passage to Earth under the condition that he stayed upon Earth, but he was refused. The magistrate told him simply ‘if you travel to Earth to save this girl, you will be hunted down and killed, as will the girl.’ Ory’hara wouldn’t let that happen, he just couldn’t let Lillian perish. Maybe it was that strange feeling he felt...

Ory’hara prepared his ship, named “Sprite” in honor of Lillian’s favorite book, which happened to be about mythological creatures named sprites, for launch. He began to get nervous, as he would see Lillian in person in nearly one hour, Earth time. He climbed in his ship and ignited the engine. As he took off, he saw the Polaran Sentinal Service, similar to the Earth’s police departments, chasing after him in their small war fighters. Ory’hara, being an expert pilot, quickly downed the enemy vessels. He turned on his hyperdrive system and his afterburners, and began his one way trip to Earth.

On Earth, Lillian was studying late in the library one evening for a Astrophysics final that was coming up shortly. She was alone, and she was a bit afraid. She had been hearing strange voices all day, and especially now. She continued to study though, thinking she may just be crazy, or at least she hoped. She was wrong, however.

“Hey, girl! Over here eh?” a big bulky man yelled out to her from the other end of the library.

“Why you all alone girly?!” shout out another.

“You are looking fine, chicky.” said a third, all three edging in on her. She backed towards the door, but backed into another man, taller than the rest. She turned to see the 6'3 figure of Bruce, the leader of the most dangerous gang in her school.

“Where do you think your going Lillian, we want to have little fun with you!” he grabbed her by the shoulders, yanking her to wards him.

“What do you want with me Bruce!? I want to go home now!”

“We just want a little ‘fun’ Lilly! C’mon, be a good sport! Koochie koochie koo!” Bruce tickled his fingers along Lillian’s chin, but she yanked away in panic in disgust.

“HELP! I AM GETTING RAPED!” Bruce shoved Lillian onto a table, and the other three pinned her wrists and ankles down, making her immobile. Bruce ripped open her white blouse, and started caressing her in private places.

“PLEASE HEEEEELP!” she screamed with all her soul, when she felt Bruce’s caressing stop and a sharp blow to her stomach was administered. She winced, and was so caught up in pain that she didn’t hear the voice that spoke out then.

“Do NOT hit her, or suffer my wrath.” Ory’hara was standing in the open doorway of the library, the moonlight shining down, draping his back in majestic grace. Polarans, in appearance, do not look much different than human’s, though they are much taller, Oryhara himself standing at seven feet, they are slender and atheletic, and they have very long hair, reaching their waistlines, even the males. Ory’hara was clad in a purple and white clothing, battle armor of sorts.

“You skinny ass punk, I’ll rip you a new one!” yelled Bruce to the mysterious alien. Bruce drew a switchblade and charged Ory’hara. The polaran stayed completely still, onlooking his opponent. Bruce thrusted at Ory’hara’s abdomen, but in a blink of an eye, Ory’hara dodged to the side of the strike, creating multi-images of himself in doing so, due to his tremendous speed.

“W... What the hell are you freak?” Ory’hara tilted his head, looking at Bruce with his steely silver eyes.

“I am her hero, your nightmare. Fear me, one with evil intent!” Ory’hara jabbed a hand into Bruces gut, causing Bruce to fall over in pain. The other three ruffians now charged the mysterious man, all failing just as bad as Bruce. With three swift moves, they were all down and out. Ory’hara looked up at Lillian, and initially, like anyone would, and should be, she was scared of him. She screamed, and he moved his way over to her, almost gliding across the room. He placed a single finger on her map, and gave her the softest, most sincere looks she had ever seen in her life.

“Lillian.”

“Who are you, how do you know me?” Again, he looked at her and mystified her so.

“Lillian.” she slightly tilted her head, finding herself completely entranced by the man.

“Y... Yes?”

“I am Ory’hara, from the planet Ke’lar’ly, which orbits the star you seem to know as Polaris. You are safe from those evil men, but you are still in danger. My brethren are on their way here to kill me, and you as well. We must escape as quickly as possible, to a world out of the view of my peoples vision. Will you come with me, Lillian?”

“I... I don’t know. I mean, this is all I know.” Ory’hara nodded, almost as if he expected that exact answer.

“Yes, this is all you know, because this is where you grew up, naturally, but on the other hand, do you like it here? I have watched you, making sure you were safe all these years, and I have noticed extreme sadness in you. You feel you don’t fit in, like someone like you has no where to go. Well hear this, dear Lillian, come with me. I will show you wonderful things, I will keep you safe, as I always have.” he smiled to her, and she raised an eyebrow.

“How do you know me this well?” she knew he hit the nail on the head, and that he was telling the absolute truth.

“I have been watching you, as I stated before. I had been assigned to watch over you, but as I did, I fell in love with you Lillian. I know you’ve only just met me, and you don’t know anything about me, but that can change. Come with me, sweet Lillian.”

“Alright, you almost have me sold, just tell me, what is the biggest reason I should leave what I call home?”

“Because I left my home for you. I left to save you, and save you I did. Now it is time for you to save yourself, and I mean that in many more ways than one. Please, come with me.” she slowly nodded, finally accepting this ordeal. He took her by the hand and led her out of the library.

As soon as they exited however, they came face to face with a Polaran task force, armed and ready to take them both to meet their makers, however different those makers may be. Leading the force, a Polaran female named Iuso, stepped forward to speak.

“I, commander pf Ke’lar’ly military, am here to terminate the lives of Ory’hara, and his human assignment, Lillian Highwater. Both have the option of giving themselves over to us, and dying an honorable death, or they can be shot dead where they stand! Your choice, ones with evil intent!” Iuso shouted in their direction. Ory’hara became absolutely furious.

“I am no evil man! I am a man in love! If you must shoot me, you may have you wish, but let this innocent girl go!” Iuso shook her head.

“Absolutely not Ory’hara, you are both to die tonight. Prepare.”

“Lillian!” Ory’hara called out to Lillian.

“Yes?” she replied.

“You must go, the ship is on autopilot to fly to a spot in the universe only I know of. You must go there, the people are very accepting. Go now, live happily.

“No! I cannot go without you! You are the only person in my entire life who has ever loved me. Please don’t do this, I will die with you!”

“I have come light years across the universe to save you, I am here for you, I am yours, you Polaris hero!” with that, he charged headlong into a volley of indescribable lasers and beams, but that did not stop him, love drove him beyond it all, reaching the task force and ripping three Polarans to absolute shreds. By now, however, Lillian was missing, and Iuso couldn’t sense her anymore.

“Damn, she managed to escape our grasp. Prepare to take off, we must hunt her down.” Iuso looked around, noticing she had gotten quite an audience of this college campus. Every student was watching what had just happened.

“These kids saw everything, they are now considered an intergalactic threat. Destroy them all, leave none alive.” with those words, the campus and the university went up in alien flames, purple in color and one hundered times as intense. Iuso looked down at Ory’hara, as he looked up at her.

“... I loved her. Not even the mighty Iuso can stop love... You will never find Lillian, with my last breath, I will make sure of that!” Ory’hara made one last lunge to deal a death blow to Iuso’s small and blackened heart, and she fell over dead, as did Ory’hara. To this day, no one know’s where Lillian truly went, they only know she disappeared in the fire of the century. Some call that fire the Great University Wildfire Incident. I however, call that fire love. Live on, Polaris hero, live on in her heart, Ory’hara.
