Sapphire eyes set in a face of gold
None had ‘er the world behold
He was the wonder of all around
And never did his countenance carry a frown
Sapphire eyes held both beauty and fire
Only rarely hid in their depths the ire
And from the west this lad came a callin’
The lasses hearts came tumblin’ and fallin’
Sapphire eyes was a soldier of war
He went to fight but never again graced the door
Of the lass that waited with her heart so full
She’d spun a dress made of white wool
Sapphire eyes never again would she see
Forever alone she consented to be
For never would she be the prize
Of anyone but Sapphire eyes
