In the End

I spent three nights crying and two nights cursing,
And long before that, another month rehearsing,
All the things I'd say to make this perfect.
I asked you out and when I was with you things were great,
And I could barely stand to leave after every date,
And now I'm just struggling not to feel like a reject.

I know you care, I know that we were just like two ships passing in the night.
But my ship's sinking now and I was praying that you could make things alright.
I know it's over, I just can't hardly stand to be losing you.
This is the only time you said you loved me too.

I tried to blame the situation and the strain,
I tried to convince you we'd make it through the pain.
Oh the things I said to make this perfect.
I try convincing myself that this is temporary,
Because I know the ending's scarey,
Because I know that no matter what I'll hate the verdict.

I know you care, I know that we were just two kids passing each other by.
But every time I passed you I felt a little better down inside.
I know it's over, I just can't hardly stand to be losing you.
This is the only time you said you loved me too.

Our timing was always a little off.
Our feelings were always a little shutoff.
And everything that I wanted to do with you... I'm throwing it away.
All your pictures are staying up.
Even though I know this is our final breakup.
But I really don't understand why it took you so long to say.

This is the first time.
This is the worst time.
This is the only time you said you loved me too.
