When You Can’t Have Something

(Something You Really Want)

When you can’t have something

Something you really want

You convince yourself you don’t

You tell yourself you’re wrong

You tell yourself you don’t care

You laugh and act nonchalant

You tell others what you can’t have

You did not really want

I seem to be quite good at this

In fact, I was once persuaded

That I turned down my father’s love

Because I did not need it

I shoved HIM away from me

And I said good-bye FIRST

And I don’t really miss him

And I sure as Hell don’t hurt

Actually, I like it like this

I have nothing else to say

He wasn’t good enough for me

I didn’t want him anyway

And then the truth hits you again

Making you sob unprotected

Because it’s not you who chose

It’s you who was rejected
